Tumblring after the California Dream RSS

A Tumbled Account of My Constant Search for the California Dream. at times it may not seem that these mundane pictures of my life in a suburban concrete waste-land have anything to do with chasing the endless possibilities for freedom, beauty and radical self expression that this Golden State has to offer. but remember. reality is a complicated one, and it is not as straightforward as we might think.

Think You need more RAM in your mac ? Not really sure what that pie chart in Activity Monitor is about ?
Here is the Deal:
Free + Used should be your total in GB and is the simple breakdown of how ready you are to open another app. Wired, Active, and Inactive are all subcategories of Used (do that math if you don’t trust me). Wired is for the system and can not be cleared, active is being used by an app and is needed as long as that app is running, and Inactive is being claimed by an app to be used if it needs it, or was just used by an app.
Now here is where it gets ugly: Mac OS uses as much free hard drive spaces as it feels it needs for Virtual Memory (another good reason to leave some free space on that internal disk). Page outs: is the amount of disk space being used by virtual memory for programs. Disk space is much slower to access then RAM, and makes everything bog down.
So…. next time your system is lagging before you start pulling your hair out and Force Quitting iTunes, check Activity Monitor and see how much Virtual Ram you are using and if a few cheap 2GB sticks of ram from OWC will solve all your problems.
PS: I challenge anyone to get a higher Page Out size then that !
